Medical equipment prescribed by a physician is a covered benefit under Medicare and Medicaid and most insurance companies now offer policies that include coverage of expenses for medically prescribed equipment. All recipients of Medicare are eligible for the benefits of home medical equipment. Usually, Medicare pays 80 percent of an approved amount for certain pieces of medical equipment.*
